It was Autumn 2015 and several California bases were gathered together, desiring a strengthened bond and covenant with one another. As this YWAM family waited on the Lord, they felt God leading them to do an outreach together. As they pressed into this, He directed their attention to the Syrian Refugee crisis, specifically in Athens, Greece. And, just like that, YWAM United was birthed.
Youth With A Mission was born out of a vision of waves of young people reaching the nations.
A swell is a series of waves, generated by distant weather systems rather local wind patterns, which they are barely affected by. Swell waves are generally long in wavelength and are characterized by more defined shape and direction than the average wave.
What would it mean
a swell of young people —
a series of waves
with defined shape & direction
that cannot be swayed
by the local wind-patterns
they encounter in the nations of the world?
We are starting with a swell of 400 YWAM-ers from around the world — equipped by the 2016 Presence Gathering — crashing in Athens, Greece this winter in response to the current refugee crisis.
Our vision is to send continued swells to this crisis and beyond, as further unity is cultivated between bases, for each is uniquely and powerfully equipped.
